Thanks.  I recognize why Todd did this, appreciate his efforts and
normally it would be ok.  I also recognize that we are stuck if the
GPC compiler fails on lister, so it is important to have GPC working
properly.  It is not clear how to handle this without a general
release, but perhaps a release only to the people who know how to deal
with it would be appropriate.

Since we just had a system upgrade but didn't change GPC, I suspect
that this is a system library problem.
