I think that always worked (at least the last two years)
In fact, GCC (and thus, GPC) is one of the few compilers that can put
debug info in optimized code. Though debugging such code can be confusing,
because the compiler may optimize code away, or rearange it.

It would be nice if gdb recognized Pascal syntax, so you could give it
commands like `display p^.field'

I started work in this direction a few months ago, but I have lots of
other things on my to-do list...
